Our Lady of Peace Parish

For the third year running, Our Lady of Peace Parish will hold the only Northeast Cinco de Mayo celebration on Sunday, May 2, 2010. The parish fundraiser will include live music, a DJ, folkloric dancing, special performances, as well as games, food, and booths from local businesses. Raffles tickets will also be sold for $10 for a grand prize of a 42” plasma television.

The Cinco de Mayo celebration will kick-off at 10AM with food, games and booths from Angel Staush Designs, Decoraciones Adriana, Decoraciones de Casas, Decoraciones Lucy and Jose Fiestas Rental LLC, all co-sponsors of the event. The fundraiser will also include different food booths with tostadas, gorditas, carne asada (grilled steak), nachos and other typical Mexican dishes.

Held in the parish parking lot, located at 1029 Bennington, Kansas City, Mo., the entertainment portion will commence at 1PM. Live music will be provided by Vientos del Norte, Lalo y los Sinceros and DJ Sonido Mi Gente. Also on the entertainment roster is a Zumba demonstration by SIAB Fitness and regional Mexican singing by soloist Adolfo Garcia. One highlight of the celebration will be folkloric dancing by child members Our Lady of Peace’s congregation.

Proceeds from all food, raffle and game sales will go directly to Our Lady of Peace Parish and its operating costs. Earlier this year, Our Lady of Peace was faced with a large heating bill from the winter months. Various fundraising efforts throughout the year helped offset the cost of this bill.

Street parking for this event is available on street surrounding the parish, as well as an adjacent parking lot on the corner of 10^th Street and Newton Ave.

On Sunday, February 28, the American Red Cross will hold a Blood Drive at Our Lady of Peace Parish in the school gym from 11AM to 3:00PM.

In order to be a donor, you must be 16 years old or older and have photo identification, regardless of its country's origin or if it has expired.

Individuales with diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholestrol or triglyceride CAN donate blood.

The DCCW will be honored during their Quarterly Meeting on March 3, 2010 at St. Elizabeth’s Church, 2 East 75^th Street by the presence of Craig S. Eichelman, Senior State Director for AARP in Missouri.  Mr. Eichelman will be talking about the new proposed Health Care issues and programs affecting the lives of seniors. He will answer any questions you may have about AARP and how to become an AARP volunteer. The regular meeting starts at 9:30 AM. Lunch which costs $10.00 will be at 12:30 Noon. Mr. Eichelman will speak about 1:30PM. For lunch reservations call Reba Bradley at 741-5665. The deadline for lunch is March 1. Thank you to everyone that came out Saturday and helped with the middle school. It was great to see everyone work together! But we still have a long road ahead of us. Starting this Saturday, June 27, we'll be working every Saturday to fix the middle school building. This is a big, but much needed, project. As soon as repairs are complete, this will be the official School of Religion building.

Join Our Lady of Peace Saturday, June 20, 2009 at 9:00AM as we work to reconstruct the old St. Stephen's Academy Middle School building. The building is being renovated to later serve at the School of Religion building. This is a VERY big project and we ask for everyone's help. This is not a job that only a few people will be able to tackle.
